About Abbiza Santa Anastasia

Nestled in the sun-drenched hills of Castelbuono, Sicily, the Abbazia Santa Anastasia Hotel and Winery is a sanctuary where history, luxury, and nature converge in perfect harmony. Once a medieval abbey, this enchanting estate has been lovingly restored, retaining its ancient stone walls and arched cloisters while embracing modern elegance. Surrounded by lush vineyards and the rolling greenery of the Madonie Mountains, the hotel offers breathtaking views that shift with the light, from golden sunrises to the deep blue hues of twilight. Every corner whispers tranquility, from the serene courtyard gardens to the tastefully appointed rooms that blend rustic charm with contemporary comfort. Even the Apiary is home to Sicilian Black bees a fitting compliment to the details found at every turn, banisters, window shades and garden ornaments.

At the heart of the estate lies its renowned winery, where the soul of Sicily is bottled in every vintage. Guests can wander through sunlit vineyards, learning about the organic winemaking process that respects both tradition and the land. In the tasting room, glasses are filled with ruby-red Nero d’Avola or golden Grillo, each sip bursting with the flavors of the Sicilian soil and sun. Dining at the Abbazia is a feast for the senses, with farm-to-table dishes that pair perfectly with their wines, served under the stars or in the warm glow of antique stone halls. The Abbazia Santa Anastasia is more than a destination—it’s an experience of timeless beauty and authentic Sicilian soul.

Chapel Proper

12th Century Abbey Restored

Any restoration project is a labor of love, especially one involving 450 hectares. His storied name was Francesco Lena and he began the restoration in the 1980’s beginning with the vineyards and olive groves. Occupied between 1100 AD to the time of its abandonment in 1800’s it was home to half a millennium of worship among the Benedictines. It was fitting that the chapel remains a focal point of the courtyard across from the reception desk. Dedication is not only to the estate itself but also to the vineyard.

The entire history of Abbazia Santa Anastasia is written by a succession of important names in the history of the Italian winemaking: Giacomo Tachis was followed by Riccardo Cotarella, acknowledged master of world oenology. Cotarella signed eleven harvests for Abbazia Santa Anastasia, thus contributing to affirming every single label of Abbazia Santa Anastasia among the most prestigious on the international wine scene. The distribution is managed by Gianfranco Lena, son of the eng. F.Lena. Today the estate’s wines are the result of the fruitful partnership between Gianfranco Cordero, an advocate of natural production, and Stefania Lena, current agronomist and Francesco Lena’s daughter.
